I have always liked embroidery and wanted to learn how to embroider so last Christmas I purchased 2 embroidery kits from Spotlight. Each kit contains 2 patterns, a hoop, needle and threads. One of the kits contained 2 floral patterns, and the other contained a bee and a butterfly pattern.

In early January I started my first project and have been slowly working on it since. I just completed the first pattern of the flower kit.
This kit contained quite a few stitches including backstitch, stem stitch, satin stitch, long and short stitch, french knot, lazy daisy stitch, chain stitch, fishbone stitch, turkey work and bullion stitch so I got to try all of them.
I got the hang of it pretty quickly, however I did find the french knot and turkey work a little confusing to begin with.
After I finished the project, I chose to embroider the date I completed it on the bottom. I am not sure what I will do with it, but I’m thinking I could include the square in a pillow or quilt.
I found that embroidery was the perfect hobby to work on when I felt like doing something creative and didn’t want to sew with my machine, or if I wanted to sit on the couch or in bed and watch a movie. Whilst it is not perfect, I am excited to have completed my first embroidery project and to get started on my next one!
