New Years Eve Dress

Happy belated New Year everyone! I feel like I haven’t posted in such a long time! The weather is currently really hot in Australia and I haven’t been motivated to do much at home.

I hope everyone had fun celebrating for New Years. I went out for dinner at a nice restaurant with my boyfriend and then we watched the fireworks with family. It was the perfect opportunity to make and wear a dress that I had been dreaming of for months!

Spotlight had an incredible navy mesh fabric covered in star sequins and every time I went shopping I would look at it and contemplate buying it. I knew I wanted to make a dress out of it but I hadn’t found the right pattern or occasion to make it yet.

As New Years Eve grew closer I realised that this fabric would be perfect for this night and I had recently bought the Colette Moneta Dress pattern which I thought was worth a try.

I wasn’t 100% sure that this pattern would work as I didn’t think there would be enough stretch in the mesh for it to work, but I can’t imagine a better pattern!

This dress was actually a fairly easy make, and I managed to make in just a day! I used a navy cotton jersey as the lining which I thought might be too heavy, however it was perfect and also meant it was breathable in the hot weather. The skirt was cut at a midi length for the outer fabric and knee length for the lining.

This dress brings me so much joy! I got to spend a day dressed in the sparkly dress of my dreams, and what makes it even better is that this dress is actually kind of like secret pyjamas because it is super comfy!

If you made any new items to wear for Christmas or New Years Eve, please share them in the comments because I’d love to hear about it!

Thanks for reading!
